Recover from complete Mass Spectometer Shutdown

This guide will go through the procedure for setting the ARGUS-VI set up after a complete power shutdown or reboot.

In these events all of the automatic valves will be closed, the high voltage (HV) source will be turned off, the CDD will be shutoff and all of the mass spectrometer settings will be reset.

1. Open valves to their default state in OSU Extraction Line.

   

2. Check if the proper ion pumps and getters are turned on. The getters on the NG Prep Bench are supplied by their own power source and will need to be check in-person.

   • Set getters ON for…

     • NG Prep System - needed for turning on Source/HV

     • CO₂ Laser

   • Turn on Ion Pumps on for…

     • ARGUS-VI ION Pump

   

3. Turn on the Source/HV via the Argus-VI tab.

   

   • Turn OFF NG Prep System ion gauge.

4. In Instrument Control, set the mass spectrometer settings back to normal. Navigate to the Argus VI tab and then to Settings. Double click on the most recent Tune Settings to load the proper settings.

   

5. Navigate to the OSU Control Panel. The Tune Settings only load a few of the settings needed.

   • Y-Symmetry [%]

   • Magnet Field Reference [V]

   • Deflection H2 [V]

   • Deflection H1 [V]

   • Deflection AX [V]

   • Deflection L1 [V]

   • Deflection L2 [V]

7. Settings for …

   • ARGUS-VI G

     

   • ARGUS-VI F

     

8. Modify Detector Setup values and Apply Changes

   

   • Make a small change in one of the values.
